Location : 10-km West Of Mapusa, North Goa
Main Attraction : Calangute Beach
Best Time To Visit: December To February
The Baga Beach lies 10 km west of Mapusa and is an extension of Calangute.
It is smaller than the Calangute and Colva beaches lying on either side of
it, and is the perfect getaway for those looking for a little bit of peace
and quiet after the activity of the other two beaches.

Baga
is a fishing beach with brown sand that sees a lot of international tourists
sun-bathing in its golden sun, as a grove pof palms gently sways in the
wind. The Baga River flows along one side of it offering a good alternative
for children and those who are not too confident about swimming in the sea.
On one of the far ends, lies a group of black rocks against which the sea
crashes in dramatic explosions of spray.
Baga has developed more rapidly than any other region in Goa and the main
road running through the village is lined with several bars, tandoori
terraces and handicraft shops. The relatively newer Saturday flea market, is
a huge success and an occasion of much that lasts well into the night,
brightly lit up with lights and paraffin lamps. All kinds of odds and ends,
handicrafts, jewellery and snacks stalls can be found here and a temporary
stage is constructed for the visiting local musician. Baga's nightlife is
the liveliest in Goa and is the perfect expression of the Goan and Western
mix of culture.
Attractions of Baga Beach
Leisure
Thanks to the droves of predominantly British package tourists who stay
here, Baga's nightlife is the liveliest in the area. Most of the revellers
end up at Tito's, which has the only dance floor and hefty sound system
outside a big hotel for miles. Women are allowed in for free; "unaccompanied"
men and couples have to pay.
Gourmet Delight
Baga has arguably the best range of restaurants in Goa, from standard beach
shacks to swish pizzerias and terrace cafes serving real espresso coffee.
Because of the stiff competition, prices are generally reasonable and the
quality of cooking high. For a splurge, splash out on a candlelit dinner at
J & A's Riverside Trattoria, or a traditional Goan meal at the eccentric
Casa Portuguesa.
Nightlife

Dolphins Spotting
Backwater crocodile and dolphin spotting down the Mandovi River to the
Zuari River is a favorite pastime for the travelers at the Baga beach. The
thickly forested banks of these rivers are rife with mangrove trees and
inhabited by crocodiles in the swampy regions. Dolphins can be spotted at
the mouth of the Mandovi River.
Places to Stay
The rough-and-ready places dotted around the fishing village usually have
space for accommodation. Reasonable budget houses and rooms for rent are
also available on the quieter north side of the river.
